Analysis:

Although Clint Eastwood has had a rocky opening-weekend average, American Sniper seems to be leagues above his last few movies. Throw in a conservative, military plot and the massively-popular star (Bradley Cooper) and you have a winning strategy. This movie will probably break the January record for opening weekend, considering the current holder is “Ride Along” with 41 mil.
